New Generation Seal Tester Sold

The first of the Jenton's "new generation" AUTOTESTER seal integrity testers for thermoformed pack matrices has been delivered to Multi Marques Inc (part of Canada Bread) in Quebec, Canada.

The six pack test heads on the machine simultaneously pressurise and leak test gas flushed thermoformed packs and either accept packs or reject on grounds of ‘overgas’ ‘undergas’ or ‘leak’ using very sensitive transducers.  Reject patterns are stored and can be reported as part of SPC systems and to highlight thermoformed seal issues.  Good packs are converged on the integral converger and fed singly, with controlled pack gaps to downstream single lane equipment such as a checkweigher or metal detector.  Rejected packs are fed into a locked bin.

Because all packs are tested simultaneously, the test time can be maximized within the cycle time and thus smaller leaks can be detected. Additionally, as  packs are rejected immediately after packing, the contents of leaking packs can be repacked easily,  thus helping firms hit targets for minimizing food waste – in addition to reducing the financial cost of leakers to suppliers and retailers.

The Jenton “Autotester” seal testers operate with gas flushed thermoformed packs where there is sufficient gas fill and pack headspace for a pressure test to be effective.  Most current installations are in bread and fresh meat lines. We have two trial units available for us to bring on site and evaluate our technology on your packs.

“There’s More To Banding . . . . .

. . . . . . than just holding things together.

Banding is not new, but it has all too often just been seen as a way of holding cards and cash together with paper tape. In our latest “minimise packaging” campaign,  we are showcasing the possibilities for tamper evidence, labeling, multipacks and packaging design opportunities that come with the banding method.

Banding materials are now available in a range of film and paper specifications (some compostable) from ribbon to clear film, all of which can be printed and can be supplied in widths from 20 – 100mm.

Recent banding projects include in-flight meals for British Airways, Banana Banding for Ffyffes and tamper evident POS (point of sale) packing for the Body Shop.

At Jenton, we are emphasizing the possibilities for packaging reduction in line with WRAP’S recommendations -   their tests have shown a 67% reduction in packaging when packers have moved from bagging to banding!  Banding also has a place in shelf loading where pre-arranged pack multiples can be loaded quickly and with reduction of transit packaging to the supermarkets.

New Jenton Group Websites

Jenton have launched two new websites bringing the total number of specialist Group websites to 18.

www.overshoe.co.uk is optimized to attract business for our ingenious automated overshoe dispenser which is selling equally well within industry and to care homes and building development companies.

www.packingmachine.co.uk is a site that accepts free “for sale / wanted” advertising exclusively for packaging machinery.

overshoe

There is no charge to advertisers and phone numbers / emails are shown to allow direct contact between buyers and sellers. It’s no secret  -  we want as many people as possible to use the site - our motivation for providing the site for free is simply to increase traffic for our own machinery advertisements. Both sites are search engine optimised on an on-going basis by Jenton’s in-house team.

Predictive Maintenance Now Accessible

Predictive maintenance techniques have been shown to reduce maintenance costs in production equipment by up to % (source ).  The process relies on the sensing of component weakness long in advance of component failure and a number of test methods are employed.

With their Pocket VibrA System, Jenton Group company C-Cubed Ltd have pioneered the technique of portable vibration analysis and balancing using PDA’s following their development and launch of Dataq CF2 – the world’s first data acquisition card for the compact flash 2 format.

All machinery with rotating parts will vibrate and an analysis of their vibration and comparison with known standards and failure patterns can identify current faults and, by trending vibration patterns over time, predict where and when bearings and fixings will fail or loosen. In addition, not only can the C-Cubed “Pocket VibrA” detect when components such as shafts or fans out of balance it can also indicate position and scale of rectification weights to achieve proper balance

An alignment system was launched in 2009 at the Maintec Show at the NEC as an additional feature of “Pocket VibrA” and this is now available to assist at the installation of rotary drive components.

The “Pocket VibrA” range is easy to set up, understand and use, bringing the analysis of vibration in house and away from the exclusive preserve of expensive consultants!
